We’re headed to the Ozarks!

arkansas

It’s time to go back to one of our favorite places on the planet – North West Arkansas … yeah, you read it right … Arkansas.  Some of the most beautiful mountains and funky little towns (I’m talking about you Fayetteville and you too Eureka Springs and probably a few others we’ve yet to discover) and the nicest folks you will ever have the pleasure to meet.  Do yourself a favor and visit sometime.

We discovered this area of the country when my wife Esther and I first attended a songwriter’s retreat hosted by Jack Williams and Donna & Kelly of Still On The Hill.  We had such a great time, we’ve been back three more times since – one of which was during our honeymoon.  Yeah I’m a romantic – thankfully Esther has the same romantic sensibilities as me!  Arkansas may not be Paris … but it’s pretty darned wonderful … to us anyway.

If you are an aspiring songwriter at any stage of your journey – written many songs or have only dreamed of writing a song – this retreat is something really special and I highly recommend it.  Jack, Donna and Kelly are the most encouraging and gently challenging instructors you’ll ever come by.  You’ll learn tons and you’ll laugh a lot!  It’s held at the Wattle Hollow retreat center.  Just being on the grounds of Wattle Hollow might change your life – the place itself is alive with a creative and peaceful energy – due to the amazing spirit of it’s creator – Joy Fox.  And then there’s fooooood!  Delicious (and healthy) … but delicious fooood – served with love by chef Tuesday.  I’m tellin’ ya … ya gotta get down there.

Just before the retreat Esther and I will be playing a house concert in Fayetteville on Thursday May 16th.  We are honored and pleased as punch to be hosted by noted Arkansas singer/songwriter Emily Kaitz.  I’m told there are only a few spots left, so if you’re planning on coming, please email Emily at emilykaitz@hotmail.com for reservations and for address information. Potluck @ 6:30, concert @ 7:30.

SUNDAY MARCH 10th @ 7:30PM
104 Main Street, Wellsboro PA

Hey, the Deane Center turns one year old! Come celebrate this auspicious occasion. Join me, my buddy John Sonntag and my lovely wife Esther Friedman for what promises to be a great night of music. We’ll be in the Warehouse Theater.

I am so excited and honored to be a part of the celebration. Much love, effort, and local support went into the creation of this wonderful arts center – a gem for the Tioga County community. Please be sure to keep it going by attending this and all of the wonderful events throughout the year.

SonntagThe night will start with a set by John Sonntag – a “roadwise singer-songwriter with a voice from heaven and a soundtrack of groove and grit.”

I’ll play the second set with Esther Friedman on harmony vocals and John Sonntag jumping in on slide guitar, harmonica and what ever else he has a notion to play!

New Show! Opening for Mark Erelli – Wakefield MA

I can’t put into words how excited I am to be opening for Mark Erelli – Saturday February 2nd at the Linden Tree Coffeehouse in Wakefield MA.  I’ve been a Mark Erelli fan for many years and his 2008 album Delivered is one of my all time favorites – like if you could only take 10 albums with you to a desert island kind of favorite – this would be one of those albums.  He’s a phenomenal instrumentalist, incredibly honest songwriter and soulful performer.  I can’t wait to meet him and am honored to open the show for him.  Hope you all can come out for this one, it’s gonna be great!
